Eric Hoffman, SE, Structural Engineer Extraordinaire
Eric’s engineering experience started long before he graduated with his master’s degree from BYU. He worked as a framer/carpenter on log homes and in concrete tilt-up construction. At IM Flash he worked in construction management building cleanrooms and retrofitting miles of process piping.
He started his official engineering career at Caruso Turley Scott in Phoenix, AZ. There he received a foundation in engineering expertise from one of the largest and most respected structural consulting firms in the southwest.
The mountains called him back to Utah. At Ensign, the Standard in Engineering, he gained invaluable and diverse experience with a group of amazing engineers. Shortly after returning to Utah he discovered a passion for earthquake engineering and resilience. He joined and later chaired the Structural Engineer’s Association of Utah’s seismic committee, and was recruited by and joined Utah Task Force One. At Ensign he was known as the “Professor Engineer”, for his passion to learn, master and then teach engineering principles to anyone who would listen.
Nearly 10 years with Ensign wasn’t enough to cure his itch for independence and innovation. In 2024 he realized a lifelong dream and started Blue Steel Structural, LLC.
